With The Rise of AI, Should You Still Be Writing Blog Articles For Your Business?

Discover why writing blog articles is crucial for your small business despite AI advancements. Learn how authenticity and passion drive engagement.

Introduction

With the rise of artificial intelligence, should you still be making an effort to write blog articles for your small business?

The short answer = Yes, keep going.

The long answer = Welcome to today's article; let's dive in.

First, a quick refresher on why blogging is good for your small business:

  • SEO - Writing articles for your website increases the number of pages on your sitemap and increases the amount of keywords used on your site. The use of keywords related to your industry helps Google understand your business. There are a handful of other reasons blogging is good for SEO, but I don't want to go too far down that rabbit hole today.
  • Thought Leader - People do business with people at the end of the day. People trust people. When people want to purchase a product or service, they want to do business with somebody they can trust. To help build trust with a stranger, you want to be THE PERSON in your industry that people think of. For example, we do marketing for small businesses; I want to be THE PERSON that people think of when their buddy mentions starting a business and needing marketing help. To become the name that comes to mind, you must share your expertise, knowledge, and wisdom with the community. Your blog, YouTube, and social media pages are the places to do this. We like the idea of writing a blog article on a topic you're passionate about, then turning it into a YouTube video, chopping that long video into three short videos for social media, and sending a teaser email to your marketing contacts.

Should I have AI write the articles, or do I actually need to write them?

You should write them. And you should write them in your tone of voice. Make it personable. Pretend you and I just sat down for a coffee at the local cafe. We're sitting outside; it's 72 degrees, and there's a cool breeze; I ask you, "What excites you about your business these days?" The moral of the story is you should write articles that you're passionate about. Your business blog is like a journal you share with others.

Note from Kevin: As I write this, it's 6:30 am, I just made a cup of coffee, I'm sitting on my couch listening to Aretha Franklin, and I'm typing this article on my iPhone using Notion. This is fun.

"Your collection of blog articles on your website will begin to get you SEO brownie points, and it will build business credibility for website visits."

Real World Example

Think about this: You need to have some tree removal work done at your Grand Rapids, Michigan house.

  • You do a Google search for "tree removal service Grand Rapids."
  • Website #1: Limited information on the website, a few photos, and a phone number to call.
  • Website #2: Has pages for each type of tree service they offer and a collection of articles from the owner talking about topics like "how we remove trees in tight spaces," "how we manage to work around your house without causing damage to the lawn," "how long it takes the crew to complete different types of projects" and finally a case study story about a particular project the crew did in the neighborhood just down the road from you. And, of course, a phone number is displayed to get started.
  • Which company are you more likely to feel a connection to?

SEO Note: Because the viewer spent more time on your website (website #2) clicking through articles and services pages, then moving forward with calling you, this "time on page" and internal links clicked show Google that your website was a good recommendation, therefore they'll be more likely to recommend you to the next searcher.

Conclusion

First, there was "Handmade." We pay extra for handcrafted goods, like leather bags and shoes. Then there was "Made in USA." We pay extra for goods that are made here in the United States. We believe the next step is "Made by a Human." We, as a species, will seek out human-to-human interactions. Heck, we're already doing this. When you call the support phone number, how often do you press 0 or say "speak to agent."

I appreciate you taking a few minutes to tune into today's article. I had a great time writing it, and I hope you learned something new. It's 7:00 am, so I will get dressed and head to the Launch Kit office.
